Appeal for Haiti

Croatian Red Cross has launched emergency appeal for the population of Haiti affected by a strong earthquake that hit that country on 12 January. You can donate by: - Making a transfer in favor of the Croatian Red Cross bank account 2340009-1511555516 refer to number 01

By 12:00h of 5th January, a total of 3.484.374,00 kuna have been donated. Croatian citizens, companies, local governments and institutions have donated 2.484.374,00 kuna and Croatian Government has donated 1.000.000,00 kuna. Croatian Red Cross thanks for all donations! Croatian Red Cross procured 2.200 kitchen sets whose total value is 95.700,00 euro. Kitchen sets shall be transported to Haiti by cargo plane. Company “Instrumentaria” donated medical products whose value is 29.227,86 euro and that will be shipped to Haiti with the Austrian Red Cross charter flight. All the remaining funds raised through the appeal shall be transferred to the IFRC either in cash or in kind. Tihomir Strekelj, a volunteer in the Croatian Red Cross has joined the WatSan ERU of the Austrian Red Cross that has been deployed to Haiti.

Two important International Red Cross and Red Crescent Meetings are taking place in Nairobi from 18 to 25 November. The General Assembly of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is taking place from 18 to 21 November, and the Council of Delegates of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is taking place from 23 to 25 November.

National Life Saving Championship

Water Life Saving Service of the Croatian Red Cross held the fourth National Life Saving Championship on September 18-19 in Omis. The best life guards from all Croatian regions took part.

The World First Aid Day was marked on the second Saturday of September (12 September) in all parts of Croatia.

Croatian Red Cross team fourth at FACE 2009
|
|
Croatian Red Cross team won the fourth place at the First Aid Convention in Europe contest held on July 4 in German Oldenburg. Members of the team are all volunteers of the local Red Cross branch of Osijek and they won the Croatian national competition held in September 2008.

13th National Youth Competition

The Croatian Red Cross held the 13th National Youth Competition from 8 to 10 May in Umag (peninsula of Istria). Youth members from all Croatian regions competed in first aid, IHL and the history of the Red Cross. 120 competitors in 20 teams took part.

New President elected
|
|
The General Assembly of the Croatian Red Cross was held on 31 March. Doctor Josip Jelic was elected President, and new Vice Presidents are Zdravko Zidovec and Vesna Ivancic. The General Assembly also elected 23 members of the Governing Board and new Supervisory Board.

Croatian Red Cross in an EU funded project
|
|
Croatian Red Cross joined the implementation of a project that will be partially funded from the EU funds "Promotion of the Harm Reduction policy – the Red Cross approach". The project gathers the Red Cross National Societies from Bulgaria, France, Italy, Latvia, Macedonia, Portugal and Croatia.
