Education Centre

The Croatian Red Cross conducts a series of educational programs for children and youth with the aim of developing humanity, empathy, tolerance, solidarity and responsible behaviour. One of the most important programs is Education for Humanity From an Early Age, intended for children of preschool and early school ages, through which children develop humane values and healthy life habits through play, cooperation and workshops. The Humane Values program provides professional support to teaching staff in addressing topics such as volunteering, tolerance, first aid, health protection and crisis preparedness.

We also implement the Safer Schools and Kindergartens program, which develops knowledge and skills related to safety, first aid and emergency management, and awards schools and kindergartens with the "Safe Kindergarten" and "Safe School" labels. For preschool institutions, the Humane Corner has also been developed, which fosters the development of empathy, acceptance of diversity and a sense of community from an early age.

For senior primary school and secondary school students, the Croatian Red Cross conducts Interdisciplinary Field Classes, which deal with the topics of humanity, volunteering, first aid, online safety and responsible behaviour in crises.

In addition to the programs, numerous educational materials have been developed, such as the picture books The Tree of Good Deeds, The Frog and the Lost Home and An Unusual Journey, which bring children closer to the topics of helping others, climate change, migration and acceptance of diversity. In addition, the Calendar of Good Deeds, the mobile game Planet of Good Deeds and the song Sing, Dance, Volunteer are available, promoting humanity, volunteering and social responsibility in an interesting and interactive way. All programs and materials are aligned with the educational curricula and supported by the Ministry of Science, Education and Youth.

Interdisciplinary Field Classes

Interdisciplinary Field Classes of the Croatian Red Cross have been conducted at the Education Centre of the Croatian Red Cross since the school year 2018/2019 and are intended for senior primary and secondary school students. The program has been approved by the Ministry of Science, Education and Youth, and consists of a tour of the educational and exhibition space and participation in one of the thematic workshops.

The workshops cover the topics of human trafficking prevention, stereotypes and prejudices, social inclusion, emergency preparedness, development of a democratic culture, first aid, climate change and prevention of gambling addiction. The educational and exhibition space is equipped with modern didactic and multimedia content that enables students to learn interactively and experientially.

The program correlates the contents of civic and health education and deals with the topics of humanity, voluntary blood donation, healthy lifestyle, first aid, online safety, human trafficking prevention and responsible behaviour. Students are also introduced to the history of humanitarian organisations, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, international humanitarian law and important humanitarian values. By participating in the program, students develop empathy, social responsibility, communication and social skills, and gain knowledge that they can apply in everyday life and the local community. The goal of the program is to encourage young people to promote humanity, solidarity and mutual respect.

In addition to students, educational content is also available to other organised groups with prior notice, and the Education Centre can also be used for trainings, professional development events, workshops, meetings and similar events.
