International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (the International Federation) is association of all National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The International Federation, as the world's largest humanitarian organization, coordinates and directs international assistance following natural and man-made disasters in non-conflict situations. Its mission is to improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilizing the power of humanity.

In 1919 (5 May) the League of Red Cross Societies was founded in Paris. In 1983 the name was changed to the League of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and in 1919 the League was renamed to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

The International Federation has three statutary bodies: the General Assembly, the Governing Board, Finance Commission and three separate functions - President, Vice Presidents and Secretary General.

The IFRC vision: to inspire, encourage, facilitate and promote at all times all forms of humanitarian activities by National Societies, with a view to preventing and alleviating human suffering, and thereby contributing to the maintenance and promotion of human dignity and peace in the world.
