After becoming a full member of International Life Saving Federation – ILS at the beginning of 1996, Croatian Red Cross set up its Water Life Saving Service.

Membership in ILS enabled Croatian Red Cross to participate in developing World and European standards for water life saving and prevention of water accidents. Water Life Saving Service of the Croatian Red Cross trains lifeguards whose certificates are internationally recognized.

Our aim is to ensure safe bathing areas and water surroundings in Croatia with the help and in cooperation with Croatian government and local communities.

Our mission is: to train youth for professional and voluntary lifeguards; to ensure surveillance and safety signs are present at all bathing areas; to instigate ecological protection of coast through enforcement and development of practical knowledge in training, prevention and water life saving.
