International Cooperation

The Croatian Red Cross intensified international cooperation during the Homeland War. Members of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, UNHCR and other numerous international humanitarian organizations recognized Croatian Red Cross as a legitimate humanitarian organization and a reliable partner for the acceptance and distribution of humanitarian aid to a large number of persons in need, especially internally displaced and refugees.

After the Homeland War, Croatian Red Cross has continued to cooperate with numerous National Societies in efforts to help the victims of war, to develop the existing activities and launch new ones (Mine Awareness Program, Water Life Saving). Cooperation continued with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC), International Institute of Humanitarian Law, various United Nations' agencies (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees - UNHCR, United Nations Children's fund - UNICEF, United Nations Development Programme - UNDP), World Health Organization (WHO) and International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The Croatian Red Cross is involved in activities implemented by numerous associations of European National Societies that focus particularly on some of the areas Red Cross/Red Crescent works in and that keep up with guidelines and accomplishments of European National Societies such as:

• ELSG (European Legal Support Group),
• EPSG (European Public Support Group),
• ERNA (European Red Cross/Red Crescent Network on HIV/AIDS&TB),
• FAEEN (First Aid Education European Network),
• HRG (Human Resource Group),
• PERCO (Platform for European Red Cross Cooperation on Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Migrants) and
• PNSG (Participating National Societies Group).

The Croatian Red Cross is an active member of Centre for Red Cross/Red Crescent Cooperation in the Mediterranean.

The Croatian Red Cross has been a full member of ILSE (International Life Saving Federation – Europe) since 1996.

Excellent development programmes, positive project evaluations, visible results and the fact that it became a donor Red Cross/Red Crescent National Society, have all contributed to Croatian Red Cross being perceived as a well organized National Society.
