Some of the local Red Cross branches run Counselling Centres for prevention and suppression of drug related infectious diseases. Experts (doctors of medicine, psychiatrists, psychologists, social pedagogues, social workers, nurses) provide psychological support and advice for drug addicts through individual and group therapies. Counselling Centres are opened twice a week in the afternoon, and telephone counselling service is available as well. Expert help and support is available for all interested persons who have problems with consumption of alcohol, drugs and cigarettes; their partners and family members; convicted minors; disrupted families; children with school problems; mentally disturbed persons etc.
Apart from Counselling Centres, drug and alcohol addicts can attend meetings with former addicts. Such meetings function on the principles of group work and therapeutic community. Former addicts are under observation during the rehabilitation and resocialization process.
Local branches organize preventive forums, lectures and workshops on addiction in kindergartens, primary and secondary schools. These are all methods of raising awareness and spreading knowledge among local population and enhancing communication and development of social skills and healthy life styles.
