Long-lasting consequences of disasters that have frequently occurred across the globe during the last few years emphasize the need for the development and improvement of disaster preparedness and response services.

Climate change, changes in social structure, and migrations all warn of the necessity of establishing and developing high-quality, efficient services for disaster response within National Societies. Based on the experiences and developments during the 1990s International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) developed a document (recommendations for National Societies) - "Strategy 2010" that includes disaster preparedness and response among four most important activities.
In compliance with Strategy 2010 the aim of the disaster preparedness and response department of the Croatian Red Cross is development of different services for fast and efficient disaster response. Disaster response team members are from among professional Croatian Red Cross staff and volunteers on the national, county and city level.
Regional warehouses for keeping all the necessary equipment have to be established. They will be used only in case of intervention or training.
