President of the Japanese Red Cross, Mr. Tadateru Konoe was elected for the  president of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies for a four-year term.

Mr. Konoe has been the Vice President of the IFRC since 2005. He has a rich experience within the Red Cross Red Crescent both in his country and internationally. He has been with the Japanese Red Cross since 1964.

In year 2003, Croatian President Mr. Stjepan Mesic bestowed State Award - the Order of the Croatian Star with the Effigy of Katarina Zrinski upon Mr. Konoe. He was also presented with the Golden medal of the Croatian Red Cross on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the CRC.
